My own 23

I believe our Library Branch will profit from our new found knowledge of web 2.0. Our patrons are always wanting a list of the books that they have checked out and read. We can now refer them to Library thing for that reference. We have a big crowd for children's hour every week. We can take pictures and post them either on flicker, facebook or our blog and let family from far away and family who is home bound see the pictures of our growing, learning children. Google doc is another thing that I have already refereed my daughter to use when she could not get a program to work by e-mail. She sent it from one store to the other and was able to open and manipulate the program. She is now singing my praise for my "web knowledge". Wiki is one thing that I have used for years and the more people I tell about it the bigger it gets. I feel that our Library and beyond has been influenced by the "23 things" I have learned. I hope I can make a difference in someone Else's life the way that this learning experience has made a difference in mine.

Refection

I have learned so much about the web by doing these 23 things. I am now a serious "facebooker". I have reconnected with so many classmates and friends from my past. I have had fun posting pictures and writing my thoughts, ideas and dreams on all of the things from blogspot to thing 23. I started this program with such reluctance and am ending it with hesitation of the fun being over. I will continue to practice many of the things that I have learned. I will not be as reluctant to try new things on the web and be more open minded about changes in the computer world from this time out. I believe that my Library has learned and grown in leaps and bounds since the start of the 23 things. We have had fun learning and it has been nice having each other to tell our difficulties and successes with the 23 things. I believe we have all grown and been influenced by the web 2.0.

podcast

I think that p0dcast can be very helpful for our Library. I will be handy for downloading books and helping the elderly and homebound get information. This will be a internet web 2.0 "thing", that will be very helpful and useful in the future.

Youtube

I use youtube all the time to find music that I have heard on the radio. I did not find anything that interesting in the library sites. I do have good luck finding random things that I am looking for. I don't see youtube being much of a tool for the Library right now.

Google doc

This is a really interesting concept. It was really easy to sign up for and I will use it in the future. My husband will love this because he will not have to buy Microsoft works for me or excel. I will enjoy using this program with several people. My father and I tend to write some and we are constantly sending each other copies of what our newest write is and making comment back and forth. This will be useful to us and I can save my writing without worries of losing it if I have hard drive failure. I think this will really be useful to our patrons because they obviously do not have home computers and need a program that they can get to from any computer. My web link to this thing is http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dg8kkw8b_0gzzp757j

Wiki

I am an official Wiki master. I love wikipedia because it is a constant reference for anything that you want to know. I have used it for a teaching tool with my children and myself for several years. I enjoyed the second part of wiki because, I got to say a little bit about myself and the things I love. I think that wikipedia can be a wonderful tool for the Library because if you can't find what you are looking for in a book you can always find it on Wikipedia!! If we were to show our patrons how to get to this sight I think they would really enjoy the extra information that they would find on whatever subject they are in the Library looking for.

Libworm beta

Signed up. This is not my thing. This could be a fun thing for us to show our patrons how to do. I found it to be too much like the last thing that I did. It was very easy to sign up for and could be a good concept for the right person.

Library thing

I joined Library thing. At first it would not let me join it kept telling me that I had already signed up and I was using the wrong user name. I tried to e-mail the information to myself but, it did not send. I finally just started all over again and signed up again. Finally went through. I don't think that I will use Library thing very much. I am pretty stuck on the authors that I read and I already have a membership with random house book to let me know when my favorite authors will be releasing new books. I don't need to write down the books that I own to keep up with them and I don't care to tell others about my books. I am sure that many of my coworkers and our patrons will enjoy this sight. I am sure that it could become a staple for patrons who read multipal books and want to keep a list of the books that they have read and not read.

Ning

You are right I did not do a blog about ning. There are just too many things that we are doing to be able to enjoy each one. I did get on ning. I had one other employee that sent me a message through ning. That is all that I have done with it. I have been really busy with the facebook. I have post a lot of pictures to friends and family only. I have reconnected with some old friends from high school and I have been keeping in touch with my daughter on facebook as well. I think that the librarians can probably utilize ning to keep in touch with patrons.

Digg

I really did digg. I found some really funny and interesting things on offbeat. I thought it was one of the funnest things I have had on a new "23 thing". I did not have any problem signing up and loging in to an account. I also found a few things to put on my facebook. I hope everyone else will enjoy this as much as I do. I started out thinking that this "23 things" was going to be a drudge. I am pleasantly surprised that I am enjoying it much more than I thought I would. I think this would be a fun thing to show patrons who are just looking for something to do on the computer while they are here at the Library.

Delicious

I know have a delicious account. I think this will be a handy tool for finding the things that I use most. I did not have any problem opening an account or following the instructions for organizing my bookmarks and giving them tags. Here is my delicious web link http://delicious.com/pagemaster67.

I think this will be a wonderful tool for our patrons who come in to use the computers at the Library because they do not own their own computer. This is a way for them to keep up with their favorite things on the Internet what ever computer they are on.

Tagging

From what I understand about tagging. (Which is not a lot). I think for personal use it can be a good system for you to keep up with what you save and store. For public use I think it would probable get very confusing and hard to differentiate one think from another. Everyone has their own way of remembering things and organizing. I am sure that their are people in the public who would benefit from this and would appreciate the library showing them all about how it works.

Twitter

I joined twitter. It is very easy to start a twitter account. My only issue was that it is hard to find my friends. There is not a lot to twitter if you ask me. I am not getting the fascination with it. I think that twitter is so big right now that knowing how to start is important to anyone within the Library that is helping the public learn about computers.

IM

as far as IMing I have been doing this for years through yahoo. I think this is a great tool for family that lives far away. I IM with my sister all the time. We also both have web cams and can see each other while we are chatting. I think teaching our older patron how to IM is a very useful tool. Most older people do not realize that they can talk to their loved ones near and far in real time on the computer for free.

Facebook

I think facebook can be helpful to the library. I like that I can get on and always be surprised that someone has left me a message and or a comment or some source of information. I also think that you can get to know your co-workers on a new light. They only have to put what they don't mind others knowing about them. The thinks that you learn about each other is really interesting.

More facebook

I started my facebook and am loving it. I think it is really fun to find friends that I have not seen or talked to in years!

Google Reader

Hope gave me a great sight for my google reader. Try the betty crocker receipes. It gives you great ideas for original cooking. Thanks Hope. I think that the patrons will be able to enjoy this when they are in here to look up particular things.

On Wednesday June the third I started my facebook. I found it to be the easiest thing of the 23 yet. I think I am really going to enjoy this particular task.

rss feeds

I subscribe to Vidya and Iryna rss feeds of their blog. I went to my rss feed and I hit the add subscription button and added a few things that I found interesting such as Star Telegram etc..., I picked out my links from the list of suggestion on the page of 23 things. I think this could help us all her at the Library. We can help each other find new and interesting things on the Internet.
Today Vidya helped me create a slide shop on my blog through my flickr account. We had a hard time pulling up my id for my blog. I feel like a blind person feeling around with all this new stuff. I am beginning to see shadows and glimpses of light every now and then. I know that eventually I will be able to do all of these things on my own. I look forward to that day.

Did an image generator on my flickr today. This is fun!
.http://www.flickr.com/photos/39088939@N08/ Had to start a new flickr today I could not remember my user name and password. Got it now.

Did a slide show by getting my flickr id.

Created with flickr slideshow.

I am trying to keep an open mind to new things. I have to admit that I am having a hard time understanding what this is all about. I will strive to better myself by following the list of 23 things I need to learn.
I have arrived!
